Balinese Cats

Balinese 2 Medium.jpg

There are different kinds of oriental cats. Famous among these oriental cats, are the Balinese types. These cats have long hairs and a marking of Siamese-style. There is a great resemblance between this breed and the Siamese cat. Like the Siamese, they are of medium length. They have plumed tail. However, they are less fluffy than the Himalayan cats. They do not require much cleaning up. The Balinese varieties of cats are very intelligent, and they are not as talkative as the Siamese cats.

Initially, Balinese were known as longhaired Siamese, having all the traits of the Siamese cats. But, during the 1950s, two breeders started a breeding program with the longhaired cats. Two cats were brought, one from California and the other from New York. After doing a cross between them, they found a new breed of cat which was named Balinese Helen Smith. She gave the name as it appeared to her that these cats have the grace of the beautiful Balinese dancer. The name is very appropriate for such longhaired felines.

After this, these cats turned out to be extremely popular among the cat lovers, and many enthusiasts started researching with the aim of improving the appearance of the Balinese. Because of these researches, there were two kinds of Balinese cats –‘apple-headed’ Balinese, and the most contemporary breed of the Balinese that is very popular among breeders.

There is a coat on the body of the traditional Balinese cat. The length of this coat is around two inches. The cat is sturdy and robust. The muzzle and the ears of this kind of cat are semi-round. The traditional Balinese cats resemble more or less the Ragdoll cat, but they do not resemble them in gene formation. The contemporary Balinese cat has coat, which is comparatively shorter than the traditional one, and the tail resembles a plume in graceful silk. These are actually Siamese cats because they have similar bodily features such as the wedge-shaped head with a slim body and bluish eyes.

According to the breed standard of the Cat Fanciers’ Association, the Balinese are dainty and svelte cats, having long and tapering lines, which are muscular and lithe. Like its ancestors, every thing in this cat is long, which includes body, leg, head, and tail. But it goes one step further than its ancestor and that is its longhaired coats. As they have single kind of coat, the hair lies very much close to the body. The most attractive feature of this breed, however, is its plume tail.

The Balinese cats are very affectionate; they adore their masters. They try to participate in all the activities of their masters. They accompany them wherever they go and involve themselves in whatever their masters do. The Balinese is an extremely friendly breed; these cats bond with all sorts of people. They play with their family and become enjoyable pets. They thrive on attention from people and never seem to get enough of it.

Thus, regardless of what kind of temperament you have, you can keep them in your home. This breed of cat is very attractive and will increase the charm of your home.
