British Shorthair Cats

Few pets are as cute as cats. There are so many varieties of cats found all over the world. Some are invariably wild in nature while some are domestic. No wonder cats are the most popular types of pets second only to dogs perhaps. Among the cutest looking cats that have adorned homes for ages are the British shorthair cats. Legend has it that these British shorthair cats were brought to Britain during the Roman period. They look unusual and are famous for being one of the popular kinds of show cats in general. Not only are they popular as show cats, but these British shorthairs also have featured in many movies. Very often, they are described as “cobby” for having a sturdy and muscular body. British shorthair cats are also famous for resembling teddy bears. That explains why these cats have been the most popular breed of cats in London.
Generally, British shorthair cats are grey colored. They have dense and thick coats. Besides their original name, they are also famous by the name of crisp or cracking. They have large round eyes, usually copper colored. Normally, they are fat cats and have round faces and chubby cheeks. These cats are normally big in size and have muscular bodies. In addition, they have wide chests and shoulders, and hips. Their legs are short and the paws are round. The tail is plush but it is not much bushy. One more interesting thing about British shorthair cats is the difference of size between the male and female cats - normally the male cats are much bigger in size than their female counterparts. In normal circumstances, they live up to twenty years if taken care of properly.
Although British shorthairs are mainly grey colored, this particular color of their fur is known as ‘British Blue’. Apart from that, these cats come in different colors, the most common colors being white, black, lilac, red, fawn, cream cinnamon, and chocolate. As far as the nature of these kinds of British shorthair is concerned, they are easy going and generally a docile domestic breed. They are playful and jovial in nature. They are not at all demanding, and they can be tamed very easily. For this very reason, they are the favorite breed of their trainers who like them for their intelligence. Apart from the fact that they can be trained easily, it is also true that they do not need much grooming, as their furs do not entangle much.
However, it has been observed that the adult cats of this British shorthair breed are less active than their kittens and are sometimes lazy in nature. With the growing number of cat shows organized from time to time, most cat breeds are quite comfortable participating in the cat shows. British shorthair cats are no exception. They readily take part in many shows and have been featured in many films too. They have been popular all over for their friendly and cooperative nature, and are quite easy to maintain.
