Training Your Cat To Delight In The Cleaning Process

Grooming your cat shouldn't be that hard of a routine to get into because cats love to be petted. Grooming your cat will eliminate loose hair and prevent health problems due to fur balls. Your cat could be bothered by briars and other sharp objects his fur collected, and brushing your cat gets rid of these. Through grooming your cat at regular intervals, you can keep an eye on your cat's overall health.

Before beginning to brush your cat, make sure it's feeling calm and relaxed. Always have the grooming utensils close by so as not to upset your cat. Make sure you let your cat play with the brush and smell if he hasn't seen one before. If he understands, he won't be scared. Try to touch the brush handle a lot so he can smell your scent, which he knows is safe.

Deftly brush the fur slowly and gently when your cat is comfortable with the brush. Make note of where the hair grows and make sure you brush with it. If your cat attempts to play with the brush, stop brushing him right away. Don't get into the habit of your cat wanting to play when he sees the brush; he has to stay still when you're brushing him.

As soon as kitty has quieted down, start to brush him again. Start at about ear level and work backwards with a long, fluid movement. Never try to brush his face, or you might damage his delicate eyes and whiskers. Brushing the tangles out of badly matted hair can cause pain, so be careful to do it gently. If kitty expects pain every time he sees the brush, he won't be amenable to the process.

When brushing your cat, there are different brushes to use. Depending on the area of the body, a large stiff brush will work well for the larger parts of your cat, but a smaller gentler brush is best for the tail and stomach regions. Longer fur on tails may necessitate a stiffer-bristled brush. Keeping a comb nearby may also be of assistance.
