The underlying hairs are known as ‘ground hairs’. Usually most of the breeds have 3 different hairs on their body. They are respectively known as, “guard hairs”, “awn hairs” and “down hair”. In Cornish Rex cats, all these three types of hair can be seen. Guard hair is the uppermost layer about 5 cm to 10 cm extended in short hair and longhair respectively. Awn hair is the middle layer. Down hairs are silky soft and closest to the cat’s skin. Cornish Rex has an extremely wavy and fine coat and sometimes it becomes almost curly.
