What To Do When Your Cat Won'T Use His Litter Box
If you have had trouble house training your cat, or if it has always
been something of a mystery to you why your cat doesn't always use the
litter box, never fear. Litter box training your kitty doesn't have to
be a chore. In fact, it really is quite easy when you know what you are
doing. With just a few quick tips, your cat's litter box behavior
should be massively improved.
First things first: do you have all the proper equipment? If you are
getting by with one litter box that you don't quite change often
enough, it is no wonder that your cat seems to rebel. Experts agree
that you should have at least one more litter box than you have cats.
That means if you have only one cat, you need two boxes. Two cats
require three boxes, and so on. This is because cats are clean animals
who don't want to use a soiled litter box. When you have extra boxes,
it insures that your cat should always have a clean place to go.
Along the same vein, make sure you are using scooping or clumpable
litter. This type of litter allows you to easily scoop out the soiled
clumps so you can keep the box as clean as possible. You should still
completely empty and wash out the box once a week or so. This should
keep your cat's "bathroom" as neat and clean as it can possibly be.
This will really encourage him to use it every time. After all, cats
truly are clean animals and prefer to use a proper "bathroom" area when
they can.
If you have implemented these tips already, and your cat still has
accidents around your house, he may have a deeper problem that should
be dealt with.
