Manx Cats

Few other pets are as cute as cats. No wonder, there are many people all around the world who are extremely fond of cats. Moreover, there are numerous classes and categories of cats that represent a large variety of features within them. Despite the fact that these cats vary greatly in their number and varieties, one common fact about these cats is their friendly domestic nature in general. Among these large sections of cats, Manx cats are popular for their playful jolly nature and the mischievous traits that distinguish them from their feline counterparts. Normally, these Manx cats are quite attached to their human companions. Apart from being jovial and playful in nature, they are highly intelligent and quite capable of defending themselves from any possible threat to their life. Their basic characteristic is their friendly nature; they are very keen on their owners and love their company to the fullest.

Manx can be identified by its tail, or the absence of it, more precisely. It hardly has a tail. In fact, many of these Manx cats lack tails and even if they have one, their tails are invariably much shorter as compared to the other types of cats. This small tail feature originates from the mutation of their spine that leads to the shortening of their tail. Generally, their short and sweet tail is described as a “stub”. Among the other identification traits of Manx are their hind legs. Normally the hind legs of Manx are much longer and more muscular than their fore legs. This feature is responsible for giving them a rounded appearance on the whole. Some times, Manx resembles rabbits for their larger hind legs.

One of the interesting facts about the kittens of Manx cats is their separate identification according to the length of their tails. Dimple Rumpy is a breed of Manx that has no tail at all. Next is the Riser that generally has a stub of cartilage. Stumpy is another type of Manx kittens that normally has a partial tail. Tailed or Longy kittens are those that have comparatively bigger tails than their fellow Manx cats. However, in most of the cases, Manx cats are without tails. Apart from the variety of the length of their tails, their coats are also different and can exhibit two types. Shorthair Manx cats have a double coat with an under-layer and an outer-layer of guard layer. The long hair Manx cats are popular with the name of Cymric and have a silky texture of coat that is medium in length.

Keeping a Manx cat is easier as compared to keeping stronger cats because they have fewer health problems. It is interesting that even without their tails; Manx cats have full balance of their bodies. Although a kitten grows up within a year, it takes five years to grow fully. Average weight of Manx cats is 5kgs. Among the most notable features of their nature, Manx cats are believed to be good hunters and this is the reason why they are kept by the farmers that face rodent problems.
