Peterbald cat is classified as a hairless or furless cat. To begin with, it was called Don Sphynx. Later on it was discovered later that the breed is totally different from the sphynx, so the name was subsequently changed to Don hairless. A breed between Tortie female and a brown mackerel hairless male gave birth to the original Peterbald cats.


The cat has a delicate, warm and elastic chamois skin with a firm and elongated body supported by strong bones. It has a special thin, tender, soft and fine skin with the hairless parts being pigmented. Apart from this, it also has a residual coat with some drawing. The skin of Peterbald cats is wrinkled which lends flexibility to move its body parts like the neck, underneath the feet and the groin. Though the cat is called hairless, it has a fine coat of hair on its ears, muzzle feet and the tail. The cat has a wedge-shaped long head, with a flat skull and prominent cheek bones and a flat skull. The muzzle is almost flat with a single angle that is found between the forehead and the nose.


The cat is sturdy by nature and it has a lean long and wrinkled neck. The shape of the body is cylindrically long and muscular. The cat does not have a protruding chin however it looks stronger. The strongest part of its body is the leg which has firm and fine bones. The forelegs are straight and vertical. The paws are oval in shape and it has agile toes. There are a number of wrinkles found on the forehead which are diverted before the ears placed at the right angles. The eyebrows and the whiskers seem to be broken off. It has a long whippy tail which is covered with dense soft and wavy fur on the tip.


Peterbald cats are very intelligent by nature. Not only that, they are friendly and also outgoing. They are not noisy and boisterous. In fact, they are very calm and peaceful by nature. They are obedient and love their owner. In addition to this, they like making friends with strangers. These are graceful cats and can live peacefully with other pets of the household. Siamese, the ancestors of Peterbald, has a habit of not staying at one place for long, but the Peterbald cats have no such problem and can stay in a small place constantly.


Since the body of Peterbald cat is hairless it needs food which can supply extra energy that controls the body temperature. Generally, a cat needs 30% fat, and 23% protein in its regular food. Other than that, it needs several kinds of vitamins and minerals. The Peterbald cat loves food.


Peterbald cats are of four types. They are categorized by the range of coats. Bald Peterbald, flock Peterbald, velour Peterbald and brush Peterbald – are the four different types of Peterbald cats. Other than these, 100% bald or hairless Peterbald cats are also known.
