Russian Blue Cats

Among the different kinds of cats that are found across the world, Russian Blue cats are the ones that are naturally bred cats. This breed of cat is also famous as Archangel Blues. It has originated from the port of a Russian city called, Arkhangelsk. It is a belief that the first Russian Blue cat was brought from the isles of Archangel to Northern Europe and England around 1860s by some sailors. In 1875, this breed was for the first time showed at the Crystal Place in England with the name of the Archangel Cat. It was not until 1912 that this breed got it own class and name.
These cats were mainly bred in Scandinavia and England until after World War II. During and after the war, due to the decrease of the numbers, they were crossed with the Siamese. It was in America that this breed got its first name, when both the bloodlines of Scandinavia and English Russian Blues were combined. This breed of cats is often used to create other breeds through crossing with other breeds of cats.
The Russian Blue cats have a very lean body with a medium size structure. They have a blue-grey coat which is short and plush. The color of the body is actually bluish-grey, which is the diluted version of the black-green. Their coat is known as double-coat. The under coat is downy, soft and in equal length to the guard hairs, which have silver tips and are blue in color. The silver tips of the hairs give a glistering appearance to these cats. Their eyes are always dark with a touch of vivid green. Their head is sometimes described by many breeders as cobra-like because it is broad and medium-wedged. Their ears are pointed and large, which are rakishly set towards the side of the head. Sometimes, white patches or yellow eyes can bee seen in an adult Russian Blue; this is considered a fault in the cat shows. The British Blues are a totally different breed of cats and the Russian Blues should not be confused with them.
The Russian Blues are very clean and quiet cats, and are very playful in their attitudes and love to have companions. In spite of being shy in nature, these cats are very devoted and affectionate towards their loved ones. They are known for being very active and intelligent in the tasks they perform. If trained properly, they, like dogs, can open the windows and the doors, and even play and fetch things. They are very sensitive to human emotions. Like the children, they like to play with the toys, and can develop great bonds with their loved ones. According to the different breeders, the male breed is known to be more enthusiastic and active than the female one.
A Russian Blue cat is a very good choice for today’s home because they have an undemanding nature, which can very well suit with the busy schedules of the modern life.
