Scottish Fold Cats

The natural mutation may lead to different kinds of animal breeds. Scottish Fold cats are one of those animals, having a natural mutation of its ears. Actually, the ears of the Scottish Fold have a fold, which moves backward or forward very easily.
The original breed of this cat has long white hair, and its name was Susie. It was found at a farm in Scotland around 1961. Susie had an abnormal fold in its ears, which appeared like an owl. The kittens of Susie had folded ears. With one of these kittens, breeding took place. The ear mutation, which took place, as a result, was due to the dominant gene. This breed of cat was not accepted in the cat show in Europe and in Great Britain. It was thought that the ears were the result of some infection, or due to deafness.
The Scottish Fold can be both short and longhaired. Their coats can be of different color combinations. There are some pointed folds, but they are not eligible for showing. The original cat of this breed had a single fold in its ears, but after repetitive breeding, the folds have increased to double or triple, and for that reason, their ears often lie flat on their heads. This breed of cats is not like British Shorthair or like the American Shorthair. They have a totally rounded appearance, with a well-padded body. Their coats are short, resilient, and dense. The eyes are large and round, and broadly spaced, which enhances their beauty and sweetness. They have whisker pads, which are well rounded, and their noses are short, having a gentle curve in profile. The Scottish Fold cats are usually born with straight ears. But after four weeks their ears fold, but in some cases they do not. Today, in the show rings, only folded cats of that breed are admitted. Due to the rarity of the kittens with folded ears, it is very hard to keep up with the rising demands.
The Scottish folds, both with normal and folded ears, are very good-natured, and full of placidity. These cats are also known for sleeping on their backs. They very soon become attached to their masters, and are very affectionate in nature. They don’t cry harshly; they have a very soft voice, and they show a very complex range of meows and purrs, which are not found in other known breeds. As a result, their voices are not so vocal. These cats are very hardy, just like the barnyard ancestors. Their sweet expression goes very much with their disposition.
The Scottish Fold cats can easily adapt themselves to any home situations. In fact, they feel quite comfortable in a room full of people and screaming children. They are such peace loving cats that they don’t create any panic in hotels or at shows. They can adjust themselves with other animals very well, and they don’t feel irritated.
It is a great idea to take this breed to enhance the beauty of your home.
