The origination of the Selkirk Rex breed of cats dates back to the year 1987 in Montana in the United States of America. Selkirk Rex is one of those cat breeds that are characterized by extremely curly hair and vibrissae or whiskers. This breed of cats is very different from the other cats of the Rex breed. Cornish Rex and Devon Rex have rather long hairs, and yet, hairs are partly missing at some place. Selkirk Rex, on the other hand, has hairs of normal length and the hair is not missing at any of the parts of the body. The coat of this particular breed of cats is pretty thick as well as plush.

This breed has been found to be available in all colors. You will find these cats in sepia, pointed, smoke, silver, and varieties of chocolate and lilac series and also in bicolors. The habits and natures of the Selkirk Rex cats are very amazing and interesting. They are quiet and reserved by nature. They are also very patient and tolerant. On the other hand, they are cuddly and very playful. In their normal attitude, they are calm and quiet. When they play with you, they are so playfully wild that you are sure to love them. They look serious and that is why they are characterized by their quietness. However, this grave face is practiced enough to hide the mischief that they have in their minds. Their head structure fits well with the reserved temper while the eyes speak clearly of the mischief in them.

So far, no health problem related to the Selkirk Rex cats there has been detected. They themselves have proved to be very robust and healthy. The only problem that may occur to them is the increase of the ear wax that may lead to irritation of the ear. If you take the trouble to clean the ear of the cats well, there is no health problem that you have to bother about if you have a Selkirk Rex cat. Its food habits are simple and almost the same as those of other cats.
